COVID-19 Variants

Multiple variants of the virus that causes COVID-19 have been identified globally during the COVID-19 pandemic. These genetic mutations are expected, and some emerge and then disappear, while others persist or become common. Most variants do not have a meaningful impact. Public health becomes concerned about a variant when it affects COVID-19 transmission, severity, testing, treatment, or vaccine effectiveness. For more information about variants, please click here.

How is the City of Placentia Responding?

The City of Placentia is actively monitoring the situation involving the infectious disease outbreak of COVID-19 (Coronavirus). We are working closely with the federal, state, and county agencies to receive the latest information on the Coronavirus. The lead national agency is the Federal Government. The Orange County Health Care Agency (HCD) is the lead authority for all public health emergencies in the City and the County. HCD is working closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the California Department of Public Health to provide daily information to prepare and protect Californians from the Coronavirus.

City Declares a Local Emergency

Following President Trump and Governor Newsom, the City of Placentia has declared a local state of emergency to enhance capabilities to respond to the coronavirus pandemic. This emergency proclamation allows the City to promptly take the actions necessary to protect public health, safety, and welfare within the City, coordinate with other governmental agencies, and seek federal, state, and county assistance, as needed. The City Council also approved Ordinance No. O-2020-03, which provides a temporary moratorium on evicting residential and commercial tenants due to the current coronavirus pandemic. The City issued a Press Release regarding this emergency proclamation.

City Facilities and Programs

The City of Placentia places the health and well-being of its residents, visitors, and businesses as its top priority. The City has installed hand sanitizer stations in our facilities for use by our patrons and employees. We are conducting enhanced cleaning in facilities and frequently touched public surfaces (i.e. counters, doorknobs, workstations, keyboards, and public restrooms). Additionally, all front counter services will maintain six feet of social distancing.

City Council Meetings

On March 12, 2020, Governor Newsom issued Executive Order N-25-20, which allows Council Members to attend City Council meetings telephonically. Please be advised that some, or all, of the Placentia City Council Members, may attend upcoming City Council meetings telephonically.

All upcoming City Council meetings have reopened to the public. If you choose to attend the meeting in person, you must wear a face mask and maintain social distancing. Please do not attend the meeting if you are feeling sick or have a known COVID-19 exposure.

As always, all City Council meetings are available to view live on the internet via the City’s website at www.placentia.org/pctv. You may also view the meetings live on AT&T U-Verse (channel 99) and Spectrum (channel 3).

Face Coverings in Public

Vaccinated people do not need to wear masks, except in the following settings where masks are required for everyone: public transit, healthcare settings (including long term care facilities), indoors in K-12 schools, childcare, and other youth settings, State and local correctional facilities and detention centers, Homeless shelters, emergency shelters, and cooling centers

Unvaccinated people are required to wear masks in indoor public settings and businesses, like retail, restaurants, theaters, family entertainment centers, meetings, State and local government offices that serve the public

Testing and Screening

If you would like to get tested for COVID-19, FREE testing is available. If you think you may have COVID-19, the most important thing to do is to isolate yourself from others and contact your healthcare provider about testing and care.

Testing is currently recommended if you have symptoms of COVID-19, don’t have symptoms but have a known COVID-19 exposure or exposure concerns, are suspected of COVID-19 by a health care provider, or are an essential worker with frequent contacts with the public. Individuals who live in Orange County should first call their health care provider for a COVID-19 test. If you have health insurance and need help finding your health care provider, call the customer service number on your insurance card.

OnwardCA Coalition

The State of California launched OnwardCA as an initiative of companies and foundations to get California workers displaced by COVID-19 back to work as quickly as possible. The online resource website (www.onwardca.org) will help employees access emergency resources, train for a new career, and connect to employers seeking people with certain skill sets.

The Department of Homeland Security has created a webpage is to help the public distinguish between rumors and facts regarding the response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Rumors can easily circulate within communities during a crisis. Do your part to stop the spread of disinformation by doing 3 easy things; don’t believe the rumors, don’t pass them along, and go to trusted sources of information to get the facts about the federal (COVID-19) response. Business Complaints

Citizens that want to report a business in violation of the State’s Order can file a complaint with the Orange County Health Care Agency by calling (714) 433-6000.
